Summary

Xpedite’s recent completion of a full ship maintenance plan for MV Queen Anne, highlights our commitment to delivering exceptional results within stringent timelines and complex operational environments. Leveraging our team of seasoned Ex-Merchant seafarers and collaboration with industry-leading technical support engineers, Xpedite stands ready to provide comprehensive maintenance solutions tailored to the fleet's unique requirements.

Within a condensed timeframe of two months, Xpedite executed a meticulously planned full ship maintenance plan. Our approach involved a holistic assessment of the vessel's maintenance needs, incorporating input from both shipboard personnel and yard verification engineers. By utilising our team's collective expertise and extensive experience, we ensured that every maintenance task aligned with rigorous regulatory standards, including internal company procedures, Class, and Flag requirements. This collaborative effort resulted in the successful completion of over 30,000 individual maintenance jobs, safeguarding the operational reliability and longevity of critical onboard systems.

This project encompassed multiple workstreams and operated under a limit of liability contract, making reach-back into the organisation essential. This enables us to fulfil all customer requirements effectively. Leveraging the depth of our personnel and their diverse skill sets ensures optimal delivery at all times.

Project Approach

Xpedite's methodology for executing the full ship maintenance plan involved a systematic approach that prioritised efficiency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. Our team conducted regular ship and yard visits, fostering open communication channels with stakeholders to address any emerging challenges promptly. Technical drawings and manuals were carefully reviewed to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, with all relevant tasks categorised under established maintenance protocols. Throughout the process, our team remained committed to the principles of RCM and optimised maintenance philosophy, proactively identifying potential failure modes and implementing preventative maintenance tasks to mitigate risk. Xpedite also maintains close collaboration with Lloyds Register on all Class-related matters, facilitating maintenance approval.

In line with our commitment to continuous improvement, Xpedite are providing ongoing through-life support activities to enhance asset management processes. This includes defect analysis, feedback reviews, maintenance optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives. By leveraging data-driven insights and best practices, we are facilitating proactive maintenance strategies that minimise downtime and maximise asset lifespan.

Project Outcome

As a result of conducting a full ship maintenance plan for MV Queen Anne, the following was obtained:

  • Safer maintenance routines that covered assets which were missed at build e.g., relief valves and cross connections between OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) skids and shipyard fits.
  • A reduction in unplanned maintenance / breakdown which has allowed for a higher availability and reliability figures, which enabled more successful completion of sailings and enhanced customer satisfaction.
  • Implemented Searchable criteria – maintenance class semantics, maintenance types for efficient PMS structure.
  • Capital savings by refining the carried on-board spares due to reduced intrusive maintenance from using condition based monitoring.
  • The safety and social culture have been enhanced with great feedback from ship staff on the quality and quantity of the work orders being generated. There has been a consistent approach of maintenance across the fleet, both maintenance and Maintenance task Instructions to be the same throughout – ship’s staff being able to pick up jobs when moving from vessel to vessel.
